The Long Journey Home.

I'm trying to do some more Civil War deviations since we're on that subject now in History, and plus I haven't done much of it in the past 2 1/2 years I've been on  .

So here is a small group of Confederate Infantry marching loosely down a road back to regroup with the main body of the army.

It's not explained in the drawing, but they have just fought at Antietam Creek in Sharpsburg, Maryland and after the brutal fighting, they fell back with the rest of General Robert E. Lee's Army.
